An informal cab tasting…

It’s a tough job to distinguish between four bottles of premium Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2006 vintage, but someone has to do it.

Cabernet Taste-off

2006 Cabernet Showdown -- Dancing Hares, Ovid, Blueline Vineyard, Munselle Vineyards

These wines went head to head in a spontaneous taste-off around our friends’ back yard barbecue. What was the outcome? Let’s start by saying, they were all great, but this was the final consensus:

Ovid and Blueline Cellars’ Hourglass were both fabulous and ready to drink NOW.  If you’ve got these in your cellar don’t plan to hang on to them for the next decade.

Dancing Hares was delicious, but in one to two more years it should really hit its prime.

Munselle Vineyards provided the sole representation from the Alexander Valley and  stood strong against these bold Napa cabs.  Though certainly tasty and drinkable now, it has enough structure to age for another ten to fifteen years.

Ever enjoyed any of these wines yourself? Feel free to share your take…
